About this course
The BINCHAE Community Digital Literacy and Empowerment Programme is a 12-week, community-based digital inclusion initiative in Nigeria designed to equip underserved and digitally excluded populations with practical, real-world digital skills.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS AND TARGET AUDIENCE
Target Setting and Audience: Underserved communities, catering across 4 age groups: Children (8–12), Youth (13–24), Adults (25–59), and Older Adults (60+).
Delivery Model: Practical, blended, and community-based learning using a flexible approach suitable for smartphones, tablets, and computers.
Schedule: 3 sessions per week, 2 hours per session (72 total core learning hours).
Core Methodology: LEARN -> PRACTISE -> APPLY -> CREATE -> EMPOWER.
ASSESSMENT AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS To graduate and earn certification, learners must meet the following criteria:
Attendance: Minimum of 80% attendance.
Minimum Score: Achieve an overall score of at least 60% across practical activities (30%), assignments (15%), safety assessment (10%), final exam (20%), and project work (25%).
Community Digital Project: Complete a practical group project addressing a real community challenge (e.g., local artisan directory, health campaign, local digital marketplace).

- Meaning of digital technology
This lesson introduces learners to the meaning of digital technology and its role in everyday life. Learners will explore common digital devices, hardware, software, the internet, mobile networks and digital applications. They will also examine how digital technology supports education, communication, employment, business and community development, while recognising basic digital opportunities and risks.
